The Future

Cardiff’s reputation as an attractive destination for a day out or short break is growing rapidly and the vision for the new St. David’s in 2009 is to build on this image and transform the Southern end of the City giving an underused area a new lease of life. This will create attractive and safe public spaces for people to enjoy and an exciting contemporary retail hot spot, catering for all types of shoppers.

The existing St. David’s Shopping Centre and the St. David’s 2 development will link via the former Town Wall South Mall, which is currently being widened and remodelled to form the main link via the ground floor and the first floor via an escalator. Debenhams is also being extended on the first floor and will link seamlessly via a glass bridge into St. David’s 2 anchoring the northern end of the development.

St. David’s and St. David’s 2 will form one shopping centre in 2009, creating 4,000 new jobs and one of the UK’s largest shopping centres with over 180 shops and over 1.4 million square feet of retail space (that’s equivalent to 30 football pitches!)
